All Eyes On Ian

September 27, 2022 – Hurricane Ian is bearing down on Florida and we are all watching very closely with our fingers crossed. At the very least we can expect some major rainfall on an already soaked Brevard County, so if you live in a zone where it may flood, please take precautions.

Sandbags are available at these sites:

Brevard County Public Works and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will offer 10 free sandbags per vehicle from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at four distribution sites:

  • Chain of Lakes, 2300 Truman Scarborough Way, Titusville.
  • Mitchell Ellington Park, 577 Hall Road, Merritt Island.
  • Wickham Park, 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne (use the park’s Parkway Drive entrance).
  • Eastern Florida State College Palm Bay campus, 250 Community College Parkway SE.

Cocoa Beach
Up to 10 sandbags per vehicle are available for city residents at the Cocoa Beach Country Club, 5000 Tom Warriner Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday (Wednesday hours to be determined).

Satellite Beach and Indian Harbour Beach
The neighboring barrier-island cities have teamed up to open a sandbag distribution site at the Satellite Beach Sports Park, 750 Jamaica Blvd. (near the library).
Filled sandbags will be available from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
After 11 a.m., residents can pick up bags at Satellite Beach City Hall until 4:30 p.m. and manually fill them at the sports park, City Manager Courtney Barker said in a Facebook post.

Melbourne
Up to 10 filled sandbags per vehicle are available to residents who provide proof that they reside within city limits from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Club 52/Greyhound Park, 1100 N. Wickham Road. Participants should use the Sarno Road entrance.
