Titusville Ranked High Among the Best Performing American Cities by Milken

February 17, 2021 – A new report by the Milken Institute that emphasizes jobs, wages and high-tech growth while factoring in housing costs and access to broadband internet ranks Titusville near the top of the list.  Provo, Utah was first.

“The next four best performing cities in Milken’s index aren’t the expected economic hubs like New York or Los Angeles but rather smaller metropolitan areas with considerable access to tech jobs, according to the nonprofit think tank’s analysts: Titusville, Florida; Austin, Texas; Salt Lake City and Raleigh, North Carolina.”

“The indicators we ascribe greater weight to are … job growth and wage growth. High tech (gross domestic product), concentration of high tech industries. Housing (cost) and (access to) broadband are weighted less heavily,” he says. “It’s then tied to the average U.S. performance as a baseline. We look at cities that are doing better than the U.S. on average or worse than the U.S. on average.”

The Milken Institute’s 10 Best Performing Large Cities are:
• Provo, Utah
• Titusville, Florida*
• Austin, Texas
• Salt Lake City, Utah
• Raleigh, North Carolina
• Boise, Idaho
• Phoenix, Arizona
• Nashville, Tennessee
• Ogden, Utah
• Huntsville, Alabama

* Titusville, Florida is part of the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville MSA. The Milken Report on Best-Performing Cities 2021 says this: “This continued success is largely due to a diversified industrial base, including a significant part of the national aerospace and defense industries. The aerospace and defense industries have also largely stabilized the metro, despite COVID-19 shuttering tourism in the region.”
