Port Canaveral Voted Best US Homeport for 3rd Year in a Row
Port Canaveral was voted Best US Cruise Homeport for the third consecutive year in Cruise Hive’s annual Cruise Ship Awards.
February 24, 2023 – The Cruise Hive Cruise Ship Awards are an annual event recognizing the best in the industry, as voted on by Cruise Hive readers. One of the most closely contested categories is Best Homeport, which recognizes the top ports that serve as the starting point for cruise vacations.
This year, Port Canaveral came out on top, earning 24% of the votes and taking the first-place spot. It is the third year in a row that Port Canaveral has taken the top spot, followed closely by Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
“We’re thrilled to have earned this valued distinction three years in a row,” stated Capt. John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO. “What an honor for us and our cruise partners to be so well recognized for providing a high quality guest experience. It’s tremendous gratitude of our efforts from the millions of cruise guests sailing from Port Canaveral year after year.”

And that may be why…
Port Canaveral overtook Miami as world’s busiest cruise port in 2022.
In 2022, for the first time, Port Canaveral is undisputedly #1, with 4,072,396 multi-day passengers, just topping PortMiami’s 4,022,544.
“We’ve always aimed to be the best cruise port in the world, but what an achievement to now be known as the busiest,” Capt. Murray said. “This historic milestone is testament to the efforts of our team and cruise partners to provide a best in class experience for all cruise guests sailing from Port Canaveral.”
The Florida Ports Council also listed 2027 estimates for cruise ports, which include single day passengers for the ports that have day cruise operations. For Port Canaveral the figure would go from 2022’s 4,210,260 (adding in 137,864 single day passengers) to an estimated total (single day and multi-day) 6,434,000 in 2027.
There must be a reason for Port Canaveral’s success. Is there something in the water?
