Governmental Affairs Update – September 2015
The committee began the process of drafting a 2016 Legislative agenda. This document will be sent to our Board of Directors for their approval at their October meeting. A survey consisting of some of the following was approved.
Some of the issues that were discussed concerned insurance. Since rates have begun to fall this might be something to be removed from our priorities. Issues of renewable energy is something we should include in a survey of the membership. Tax abatements and their value will be included. Another suggestion was to include higher education as a priority. Other areas of consideration are the expansion of the port and with working poor.
We will be inviting someone from the City of Titusville to brief the committee on the comprehensive plan and city agenda items in which the chamber might be helpful in encouraging redevelopment and smart growth. They also stated they would like to have a speaker from TPO update the committee on their plans.
