Governmental Affairs Update – June 2015

John Walsh, CEO of Canaveral Port Authority was our May luncheon speaker. One of the most current issues he discussed at that event was the expansion of rail needed as part of the commercial expansion of the port. There are several options being considered and those options were part of the discussion at our most recent Governmental Affairs meeting. There are economic aspects to this issue as well as environment impact that will be considered before any decisions are made. It is topics like this that our committee members discuss. This is an opportunity for chamber members to express their position on issues that not only concern business in North Brevard but the quality of life of us all.

Other issues for discussion were the reconvening of the state legislature to address the state budget. Due to their return to Tallahassee in June, Senate President Andy Gardiner will not be our June speaker but he has been rescheduled to September. The issue of the Healthy Florida Works remains a major contention between the senate and the house.
