They Like Us, They Really Like Us
August 19, 2022 – If you live here you know the phrase, “just another day in paradise.” Some people use it ironically, but not us. It really is pretty darn nice around here.
It seems like the people who visit us agree and there is more of them than ever before. According to reports from Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism, we’re having a good year. You probably know when our visitors stay here, they pay a little extra for the privilege in the form of a tourist tax.
According to the Office of Tourism, June Tourist Development Tax (TDT) has come in at $2.045 million for the County – a record for the month of June, making it the 15th consecutive month of “best month ever” results. This is 9.3% ahead of the previous high June which was $1.871 million last year.
The 2nd quarter STR data and Room Night Demand (hotel rooms rented) was up nearly 5% over the prior year – 673,000 rooms rented. And year to date, across Brevard County, rooms rented are up 19.3% to 1.4 million rooms. This puts the Space Coast on best pace of any year, including 2019 which was the previous high. What’s also impressive is that nearly as many hotel room rentals were generated in Q2 as in Q1 (696,000) which contained the highest month of TDT collection ever – March.
If you are not a numbers person it boils down to this: the tourists are back and there are more of them all the time. That makes us very happy. It’s fun to share.
