Construction to start on new Titusville mall

The developer of the proposed Titus Landing retail and medical complex in Titusville says he’s confident construction will begin in early 2016. But some local residents say they’ll believe it when they see it, since they’ve seen previous anticipated dates pass without construction activity there. The Titus Landing “lifestyle center” will be built on the site of the former Miracle City Mall, off U.S. 1/South Washington Avenue, south of downtown Titusville.

For months after the mall’s main structure was demolished and removed, the property has sat desolate, surrounded by a chain-link fence. Huge chunks of concrete mixed with dirt give it a post-earthquake appearance. The only sign of the property’s future is a “Coming Soon” sign at the section along U.S. 1.

Announced tenants for Titus Landing include Bealls department store, arts/crafts/hobbies retailer Hobby Lobby, Pet Supermarket, Rack Room Shoes, beauty supply retailer and salon Ulta, a 12-screen Epic movie theater complex and a Parrish Medical Center medical office complex.

“It’s right now a lot of moving parts, dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s,” said Doug Reardon, president of Exxcel Project Management LLC, an Ohio-based company that is developing the project. He expects construction on the Hobby Lobby and Parrish parcels to begin “right after the first of the year,” with construction of the movie theater to begin about two months after that. Pre-construction cleanup work on the site is resuming later this week, Reardon added.
