BREVARD COUNTY — Eastern Florida State College recently announced the addition of three new tracks to its Bachelor of Applied Science Organizational Management program.
The school, which has been growing rapidly since it announced the addition of four-year bachelor degrees in 2013, now has 21 bachelor degree tracks to choose from.
The new degree tracks include Travel and Tourism Management, Event Planning and Management, and Non-Profit Management.
Students can start applying for these tracks, which will begin in the fall term of 2019. However, students must already hold an Associate in Arts degree or Associate in Science degree.
“We rely strongly on the recommendations that we get from business and industry,” said John Glisch, associate vice president of communications at EFSC. “We have a number of advisory boards at the college in different economic areas, and through those kinds of boards, plus additional research that we do, that’s how we determine where the jobs are and where the business industries need new employees.”
As Brevard County continues to grow economically with new businesses opening from Titusville to Palm Bay, students who graduate from EFSC tend to stay in the county for these jobs.
“The reason for that is all these new programs we’ve created in recent years, 60 new programs including 21 bachelor degree tracks, they’re all tailored to meet local and regional workforce needs,” Mr. Glisch said. “Our three main bachelor programs are in business, health care and computer technology.”
Each of the three new tracks will include core business classes such as accounting for managers, management and leadership, human resource management, and legal, ethical and societal aspects of business.
Students pursuing the Travel and Tourism Management track will be offered specialized studies in hospitality and event management, cruise line operations, and tourism, theme park and attractions management.
In Event Planning and Management, students will take courses specialized in hospitality and event management, convention services, social event planning, and advanced event and exposition management.
Lastly, those looking to study Non-Profit Management will focus on working with governing boards, foundations and volunteers, advocacy and lobbying, financial management and fundraising, and program cost-benefit analysis and evaluation.
EFSC also offers associate degrees and certificate programs in four colleges around the county; Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne and Palm Bay, as well as through online learning.
