Blueberries are Abundant on the Space Coast

Along the Space Coast, you may see dolphins swimming by on one of our pristine beaches, watch alligators sunning on the side of the road on one of our nature preserves and maybe even catch a glimpse of a rocket soaring into outer space! However, just a few minutes north of Titusville, you will begin to see lots of agriculture, including BLUEBERRIES!

Blueberries were not always grown in Florida. In fact, it was not until the early 1970’s at University of Florida that this even became an idea. The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at UF developed a Southern Highbush blueberry plant, which can now be commercially grown right here in Florida! When you think Sunshine State, you might immediately think oranges, however the Florida blueberry industry is estimated to be worth $82 million in 2018. This means, lots of blueberries for you to pick and enjoy! YUM!

Blueberry farms are popping up all over Florida, but along the Space Coast we have some special spots.

Every After Farms U-Pick Blueberry Farm hosts over 17 acres of farm and currently offer a friendly petting farm, and tractor pulled wagon rides. They grow three different types of blueberries: Prima Donna, Emerald and Jewel. BONUS: They are located right along the East Central Regional Rail Trail. So grab your bike and ride on up to the farm!

There are many other blueberry farms in the area, including Williams Farm that even makes their own Blueberry Leaf Tea. Check out their Facebook for updates!

Tips for the Best Blueberry Picking Experience:

  • Apply Sunscreen and bring some bug spray.
  • Get there early to beat the heat.
  • Double check open times for the farm of your choice before you go. Due to weather, hours could change without much notice.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in.
  • Bring a snack and drink or even pack a lunch to enjoy while you are at the farm.
  • Be prepared to have fun!

There are so many ways to launch your adventure from here, on the Space Coast. Whether you live here or are just visiting here dive into another side of Florida, and make one of your stops a blueberry farm!
