Top 5 Ways to Cure Cabin Fever

  1. THE BEACH. Anywhere, anytime. A few minutes of listening to the roar of the impossibly vast ocean right in front of you, and you’re cured. Cabin fever bye bye. You’re free, and at peace. Our best beach? PLAYALINDA on the Atlantic coast within Canaveral National Seashore.
  1. NO OCEAN? NO WORRIESObservation TowerGet on your bike. Yes, the kind with pedals, and cycle your way to – well, it doesn’t matter much. The journey IS the destination.  But if you’re the type who needs a destination, then cycle approximately 3.5 miles to Chain of Lakes from the downtown Titusville Welcome Center (where, conveniently, you can rent a bike). When you get to Chain of Lakes, take a break from pedaling and climb to the top of the Observation Tower. From there you can see the Indian River Lagoon, the beautiful A. Max Brewer Bridge, Haulover Canal in the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, and The VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) on Space Center property. Bring your camera!

  1. A FAVORITE LOCAL WAY TO GET OUT FROM UNDER. DYK? Titusville is officially designated a Florida Trail Town, and Titusville is the only place where these three major cycling trails converge: Coast to Coast Trail across Florida, the five-county St Johns River 2 Sea Loop, and the (Maine to Key West) East Coast Greenway.  The Welcome Center is the perfect place to start. You can rent a bike or get yours tuned. You can pick up a map and find out where locals go. We have major paved trail ways and enticing off road options.  And we have lots of people who love cycling.  Stop downtown at Playalinda Brewing Company, and you’re sure to find someone who will talk cycling over a craft beer brewed right here.

  1. HUNGRY? Waterfront DiningSo you’ve turned in your bike and helmet, and you’ve worked up an appetite. Maximize the opportunity by picking a place with a view and dine al fresco, in the open air, preferably overlooking one of our magnificent bodies of water– from the Indian River Lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean. Look for a place with a reputation for serving locally-caught fresh seafood.     Nothing like a comfortable stop, a little special attention–and great food–at water’s edge. Ready for something special? Order our ROCK SHRIMP.

  1. VISIT THE STARS AND THE MOON AND MARS AT KSC. ShuttleThat’s short for Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex to the uninitiated. It’s where our illustrious space history and space exploration of tomorrow meet in world-class exhibits that includes a so-close-you-feel-like-you-are-ready-to-board visit to Space Shuttle Atlantic exhibit.  She’s the real deal, and just as exciting as it sounds. Heroes & Legends, Imax theatre, and Astronaut Training are just some of your choices.  Come for a launch, pick a viewing spot or take advantage of special viewing arrangements at KSC.   There are no shortage of viewing spots in Titusville. Need a little help? Pick up an EPIC LAUNCH VIEWING SITES MAP at the Welcome Center or get one online at Titusville.org/maps.

  1. GET SOME OARS. Rent a kayak and get way out into nature. View old Florida landscapes like you never have before. Keep a lookout though, as our part of the universe is rich with diversity, and internationally known for its abundant wildlife–in particular its amazing birding population. But you might just get lucky and see a mermaid, er… a manatee, also called sea cows. You would have to be on an ocean voyage for a long time to mistake a lumbering manatee for a mermaid, but even Columbus is said to have made this error. You may also see gators and dolphins and eagles and otters and ospreys and more.   Whenever you arrive, it is likely to be the season for something. Right now the ospreys are nesting, the whales are calving, and the comb jellies are out.  We have expert guides and places to launch, as the people around here are never too far away from the healing sounds of paddles hitting water.  And very soon, the sea turtles return to nest (they return to the same stretch of beach every time).  I think they know it’s a nice place to visit.  When are YOU coming?

JUST SAY NO TO CABIN FEVER and book your plane ticket or plan your drive.  It really doesn’t matter if you have a big formal vacation plan, adventures of all sizes and kinds are yours daily–It’s all just waiting for you here in Titusville, on Florida’s Space Coast.
