Top 5 Ways to see Florida’s Biggest Creatures: Alligators!
A MUST see in Florida: Alligators!
Did you know the official state reptile in Florida is the Alligator? These large creatures can grow up to 15 feet long and weigh over 1000 pounds. In Spring, as it warms up even more in Florida, Alligators become more active. It is mating season and they are on the move.
You can spot Alligators almost anywhere in Florida, but of course there are hot spots on the Space Coast:
- Chain of Lakes park in North Titusville offers an excellent place to cycle, walk, play softball, relax under a pavilion or see alligators! Pro Tip: Make a stop at the Observation Tower where you can climb to the tippy top to see magnificent views of the entire Indian River Lagoon.
- Black Point Wildlife Drive is a 7-mile self-guided auto tour through nature. This is a great spot to see Alligators sunning on the bank!
- Take an Airboat tour on the St. Johns River! Get a thrill and see all sorts of wildlife on this unforgettable ride. Two of our favorites are Airboats at Midway and A St. John’s River Airboat Tour.
- If you want a 100% guarantee of seeing an alligator, check out Jungle Adventures! Jungle Adventures is a Real Florida Animal Park is the natural habitat jungle home of our rare Florida Panthers, Black Bears, Wolves, White-Tailed Deer, Tropical Birds, Reptiles, Mammals, and other critters, including alligators!
- Driving down the road! You never know when you might see an Alligator in Florida. Keep your eyes open and look on the banks of freshwater in the daytime as they like to sun themselves to regulate their body temperature.
