2022 Falcon 9 Launches Already Outnumber 2021
July 17, 2022 – With SpaceX’s launch on Sunday morning, the company has already blasted off as many times in 2022 as it did for the entire year in 2021. By reusing components from one flight to another, the company shortens turnaround times as well as making the business more cost-effective.
The mission lifted another 53 Starlink internet satellites into orbit, and the rocket that did the job marked a record-tying 13th launch. It was also the 31st Falcon 9 mission this year.
There are now 2,800 Starlink satellites in SpaceX’s constellation, designed to bring high-speed internet access to areas where broadband is spotty. The company already has permission to launch 12,000 Starlink satellites and if approved, will launch another 30,000.
