Rebooting in Titusville
Lockheed Martin’s new Orion sub-assembly plant at the former U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame is slated to open summer of 2021.
August 4–Lockheed in 2019 won a NASA contract to build the Orion capsules, creating the need for expansion. 14 analyst, engineering and technician job openings are currently listed for Lockheed’s KSC location.
Lockheed has added 10 local workers to its Orion team this year with plans to add between 50 and 100 more in the next two years.
“Lockheed will be working on Orion well into the 2030s,” said Kelly DeFazio, Lockheed’s Orion program director for production.
Orion will carry astronauts to the moon on the Artemis missions, aimed to begin in 2021 with up to 11 subsequent missions. Artemis is also designed to take humans to Mars.
