Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

Take the Max Brewer Causeway Bridge toward Playalinda Beach to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

The refuge covers 140,000+ acres and an amazing range of habitats and miles of trails.

Just want a beautiful drive, go to Black Point Wildlife Drive on the Refuge (fee per vehicle, one way). There are spots to pull over plus observation platforms for special views. Bring your camera.

Haulover Canal is a launch site for kayaks and canoes and a haven for wildlife viewing including birds, alligators and manatees.

Bird watchers love the refuge and travel from all over the world to observe the 350+ species of birds that have been identified in the area.
